Girls on Bonaire and Saba are bullied more than boys

Girls on Bonaire and Saba in particular were more likely to be bullied than boys in 2024. Boys and girls who were bullied said they were less happy and less satisfied with their lives. They were also less likely to talk to someone about personal issues. This is according to new figures from the Caribbean Netherlands Student Survey which was conducted at the end of 2024 as part of the National Youth Monitor.

This publication describes how young people in the Caribbean Netherlands perceive their own health and well-being, how they spend their spare time, and what they plan to do in the future. The findings presented here are taken from the Caribbean Netherlands Student Surveys 2020 and 2024, which were carried out among students under 18 years of age in secondary education and secondary vocational education (MBO).

10 percent of 18-24 year-olds who smoke are heavy smokers

Nearly one in three 18-24 year-olds smoke, and one in five of this age group are overweight. At the same time, nearly 91 percent report their own health as good or very good. Young people who smoke and those who are overweight are less positive about their health than those who do not smoke and those who are not overweight.
