Read publicationMore young people receiving youth assistance, particularly teenage girls
In 2023, 474 thousand young people received youth care. This was 10,000 more than in 2021, an increase of 2.2 percent. This increase resulted from more young people receiving non-residential youth assistance. More girls aged 12 to 17 in particular were receiving this form of support. This is according to provisional figures by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

In 2022, there were 609 thousand young people (aged 15 to 34 years) in the Netherlands who had completed a technical education. There were relatively few women in this group; compared to men, women were also less likely to work in technical occupations. The difference between young women and young men in choosing a technical education is already visible in senior general (HAVO) and pre-university (VWO) secondary education. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports this in the context of the National Youth Monitor 2023 on the basis of figures from the Labour Force Survey and education statistics.

This and more is presented in the Caribbean Netherlands Student Survey, held for the first time at the end of 2020. 5.3 percent of 12 to 24-year-old internet users report that they were bullied, stalked or threatened online in 2018. Over 140 thousand young people were affected. Girls were almost twice as likely to be a victim as boys (7.1 versus 3.6 percent). Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports this based on a survey on cybersecurity and cybercrime.
